Women’s Fall/Winter Boot Guide

My fall/winter shoe wardrobe is significantly larger than my spring/summer, and that’s mostly due to my serious love of boots. I’ve cycled through several pairs over the years, and have finally figured out the ones that I get the most use out of. Sure, a pair of croc-print boots are fun, but I haven’t found my “specialty” boots to be quite as wearable as some others.

I’ve narrowed it down to just three broad types I think make great staples in a wardrobe. I’m constantly grabbing for my short, flat combat boots, my suede knee-high boots, or my heeled black leather boots. I can make one of those three go with just about any outfit in my wardrobe or fit any occasion.

Keep scrolling below to see how I’ve styled my three favorite styles with the same dress, and how each can change the look of the outfit. I’ve also linked to some of my other favorites within each category, just in case you are on the hunt or are looking for a pair as a gift for someone!

Flat Boots

These are my most casual of all – I love pairing them with dresses for a more tomboy look, with denim or trousers. They are hands-down my most comfortable and great for daytime and weekend wear. Mine are an investment pair from Sezané, but I’m linking to more budget-friendly options below.

Black Knee Boots

These are my go-to for dressier looks. In addition to loving pairing them with a dress for evenings out, they also look super chic with a pair of skinny faux leather pants or leggings. They make your legs look super long and your whole ensemble polished. Mine are old from Vince Camuto, but I’m linking to lots of other options below!

Suede Knee Boots

These are one of my favorites I’ve ever had! I think they are so flattering on the leg, and are a great in-between boot for a casual yet sophisticated look. I wear these with dresses, skirts, and all skinny jeans. I think they can soften any look but add a nice neutral touch.

Winter-Friendly Boots

If you live in a cold-weather climate, you might also need to add a pair of weather appropriate boots to your wardrobe. These are some of my favorites – my go to brand for winter boots is Sorel. I’ve had this pair for years that I love. I also grabbed these this year for the more in-between climate days.
