Welcoming Spring

Given the current state of things, it’s easy to forget that just this past week we welcomed the beginning of spring. Switching seasons to springtime has historically been a favorite time of mine, as I feel like it symbolizes the harsh days of winter becoming a memory, and new life and adventures ahead. Sadly, it does not feel like the harsh days are behind us, but rather laying ahead of us. There are a lot more days of being shut-in on the calendar, and instead of new life, we’re all just trying to stay positive and healthy.

Needless to say, it’s not the springtime transition we’re all used to, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find little ways to try to embrace the season ahead. Instead of focusing on all the hurdles in the coming months, I’m trying to find the beauty in things around me in a new way, and embrace those things. It’s a new way to welcome in spring, but here are a few things lifting my spirits and making me feel the hope of warmer months ahead.

Bring the outdoors in

Going out for a fresh flower run is definitely not an essential errand, but I still like to keep my home feeling welcoming and styled. In lieu of florals, I’ve been trimming branches from the blooming trees in my yard and filling my vases with them instead. I started doing this last summer and loved the life the greenery brought to my home. Major perk: it’s free! Each branch has so much character and I love the imperfect touch it adds to a space.

Routinely set a mood

Because the days might feel like they are all starting to blur together, I find it lifts my spirits to look forward to a time at the end of each work day where I create an ambiance in our home. As soon as I close my laptop for the day, I put on one of my favorite Spotify playlists, dim the lights, and go around lighting all of our 268 candles I have in our house. It sounds small, but changing the mood of the home helps break up the day, and I get excited to wind down for the evening. I’ve created a special “Welcoming Spring” playlist on Spotify that are all songs that currently uplift me and capture my pre-spring mood.

Dress for the season

While it’s tempting to stay in leggings and sweatshirts when you’re trapped indoors, I suggest still dressing for the weather outside. Each morning, I still look at the weather and select an outfit based on the forecast – even if I know I won’t be leaving the house. We had a warm and sunny day last week, so I slipped into a mini dress and it instantly changed my mood. Having my bare legs out made me embrace the changing season, and kept me hopeful that the days of getting to be out in about in a sundress maybe aren’t THAT far away. If you are in need of a little refresh to your spring wardrobe to help get you excited to get dressed, I’ve rounded up a bunch of my favorite finds in my Spring Shop here.

Try something new

Springtime, to me, is all about welcoming in new life. Flowers are emerging all around us and we hear baby birds chirping outside. There’s no better time to welcome new life within yourself and try something new! Get outside of your comfort zone and do that online Zumba class or try a new recipe. I’ve been working on getting more courageous in the kitchen and it has brought me so much joy and energy. I’ve been researching food prep and chopping techniques, and it truly feels like a breath of fresh air. So, what is it you’ve always wanted to try? Maybe now is the perfect time to allow yourself to blossom and grow.

The most important thing is to remember that much like seasons, this too shall pass. So take a deep breath, get outside in the sunshine, and keep your spirits lifted. Find ways to inject a little bit of springtime beauty into your daily routine and embrace this simpler season of life.
