Travel Diary: San Jose del Cabo & Acre Hotel

Happy Wednesday! I thought there was no better way to celebrate being mid-week then to share the second half of our honeymoon adventures in Mexico with you! If you missed our stay in Cabo San Lucas, you can read all about it here. We knew when we booked in at an all-inclusive, beach-front resort, that we would also want a slightly different taste of what the Los Cabos area had to offer. After a couple of days of indulgence, we moved further inland to San Jose del Cabo. If I had to pick, I would say this part of my trip was definitely my favorite!

where we stayed

I discovered Acre Baja on Instagram about a year ago, and it was love at first sight. When I first proposed to Ryan that we stay in a treehouse in the middle of jungle in Mexico he wasn’t super excited, but then I showed him photos and he was sold too! There are twelve treehouses on the property (don’t worry, they’re super safe and the chicest treehouse you’ve ever seen with amenities of a five star resort). Each room has its own bathroom, “mini-bar” (the cutest little mini fridge with wine, ever), a super comfy bed with the chicest linens, a private porch, and an outdoor shower. The treehouses are literally up the in treetops, and are enclosed only with screen. There are curtains you can pull shut, but the room feels so private in the jungle that you don’t really need to. Falling asleep to the sound of the rain on the palms and waking up to roosters crowing in the distance was by far one of the most relaxing and coolest experiences I’ve had in long time!

In addition to being a resort, Acre Baja is also so many other things. The property has a restaurant (more on that later), a bar, pool, and is an animal rescue center. Yes, you heard that right… there are PUPPIES on the property! There are also donkeys (Burrito is my fave), goats, peacocks, and more. It’s such a fun environment – what other property can you walk around with a rescue puppy in your arms? Truthfully, we almost came home with one!

I honestly can’t say enough great things about Acre. The staff felt like friends of ours by the time we left, and were so accommodating to anything you needed. I think this is one of the main reasons we barely left the property! We loved our stay so much that we are already planning a trip back.

what we did & ate

Once we got to Acre, we didn’t really want to leave. It was such a paradise on its own with amazing food and drinks, that we spent most of our time there. We spent a lot of time in our treehouse listening to the rain and thunderstorm, and also spent the sunnier hours out by the pool. It has SUCH a cool vibe – they call it “the sexiest pool in Cabo” and it definitely is that! It’s so peaceful and has a fun vibe at the same time. You can order poolside cocktails, and bask in the sunshine all afternoon. I wish we had gotten to have more time at the pool – it was one of the best parts of the place!

Acre also offers complimentary yoga classes in their mango orchard every morning. We took advantage of this and loved it. We don’t do yoga that much at home, but it was such a relaxing experience to start our day feeling so zen. It was also nice to get to interact with the staff and basically have a private yoga session!

We also ate most of our meals at Acre. The food was soooo fresh and you could tell it was locally grown (most of it grown right on the property). If you stay in the treehouses, breakfast is included with your stay. We loved the fresh fruit bowls! For dinner, I had the vegetable tacos both nights because it was SO good. Also, be sure to try the beat tar-tar. If you grab a smaller bite to eat at the bar, I can’t recommend the nachos enough. They were life changing!

Other than that, the only thing we did was venture up the road to Flora Farms. It’s an adorable farm/shopping center/restaurant just a short drive up the road. You can walk from Acre, but it was suggested that we take a cab. We arrived early enough to have a drink at the bar in the garden before sitting down for dinner. You have to try the burrata – it’s amazing! After dinner, we did a little shopping and picked up some locally made goodies before heading back to the hotel. Theres a little shop right across from the restaurant with the cutest handmade bags and yummy smelling soaps! They also offer yoga and cooking classes, but we unfortunately didn’t get to try those out this time around.
