Travel Diary: Denver & Aspen

Happy Thursday Friends! It feels like AGES since I’ve written a blog post (or been active on social media, for that matter). I’ve been taking a bit of a break to do some planning for later this year (so excited!), and go on a true non-work trip with friends. Last week, we flew out to Denver, CO to visit some of our best friends, and took a road trip up to Aspen to enjoy one last snow before officially getting into spring mode.

We didn’t take many photos, but I wanted to share our experience anyways. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been! The snow and scenery was absolutely magical – I’ve never seen anything like it before. We didn’t end up getting to ski (Ryan injured himself the week prior to our trip), but we did go snowmobiling and enjoy the aprés ski culture anyways.

DENVER & UNION STATION

Our first stop as soon as our plane landed was to Union Station. We only had a couple of hours to kill, so we grabbed a quick bite at ACME Pizza inside (highly recommend), and then headed over to Mercantile Dining & Provision to grab a coffee and a drink. This little area was one of my favorites – you can grab anything from your morning latte and breakfast sandwich to a happy hour snack and cocktail. As you can see from the photos below, it was SO cute inside!

We spent the rest of our day catching up with our friends, but did head into town later that night to The Block Distilling Co. If you’re a fan of gin (or just great cocktails in general), I highly recommend this place! It was a nice quiet atmosphere and a cool yet sophisticated vibe. We picked up a bottle to bring home with us as a souvenir – mostly because it’s going to look so chic sitting on our bar cart 🙂

APSEN & GLENWOOD SPRINGS

Next up: Aspen! This is somewhere that has been on my list for a while, so I couldn’t wait to get there. It was about a four hour drive (including stops) to our Airbnb in Basalt, but the drive was GORGEOUS! As I mentioned above, I’ve never seen anything like the Colorado landscape in my life. Even if you fly directly into Aspen, I highly recommend renting a car and taking a drive through the mountains anyways.

On our first full day in Aspen, Ryan and I went snowmobiling for the first time with T-Lazy-7 Snowmobile Tours. It was THE BEST experience! It was so cool getting to zip through the woods and see things that you can’t from the road. If you aren’t a skier (or even if you are), I can’t recommend doing this enough. The whole process only took about three hours, and we were back at the ski resort in no time ready for lunch and a little aprés “ski” action.

Our friends were skiing at Aspen Snowmass, so we spent most of our time at one of the resorts, Aspen Highlands. We did venture up to the Snowmass Village for a hot minute (Fuel is a great place to grab breakfast and coffee before you hit the slopes), but ended up liking the vibe back at Highlands better. That evening, we headed to Glenwood Springs to take a dip into Iron Mountain Hot Springs. It was one of the most relaxing experiences – I felt so zen after coming out! I didn’t snap any pictures while I was there, but it’s so beautiful. The hot springs are right along the river and it was absolutely breathtaking.
