The Shows: NYFW Runway Recap

Another fashion week has come and gone, and if you caught last week’s post, then you already know my honest opinion of NYFW. Besides the “show” happening outside of the show, the main reason I live for fashion week is to catch a glimpse of upcoming trends for the next season. It’s our first chance to see what designers have in store for us in the coming months – I love getting ahead of the curve and starting to prep my wardrobe with the upcoming trends. Between the two shows I attended and more that I coveted from afar, I’m so excited about a few things we can expect from styles next spring & summer.

As you may guess from the images above, the Tadashi Shoji show revolved completely around the galaxy and all things celestial. From the star cut-outs on glittery dresses, to Tadashi’s bold planet print, he wanted to create a line that was beautiful amongst all of the “evil” in our world. Tadashi’s special occasion dress line was stunning as usual, each dress more magnificently cascading down the runway than the last. Though his line isn’t one you could wear everyday, it does inspire me to add more special events to my calendar in the coming months – the long black printed gown above has my name all over it!

Vivienne Hu

The second show I attended this season was Vivienne Hu. It was my second time attending this show, and I loved this collection even more than the last. The fun mix of prints, textures and shapes was unlike anything I had seen so far this season. The mix and match collection felt like old garments that had been recycled into new ones with their contrasting colors and fabrics. The playful and feminine vibe of the show made it one of my favorites – I’m completely in love with the blue ruffled midi dress with the velvet paneling! This print mixing trend is one I’m looking forward to incorporating in my wardrobe starting as soon as possible.

Zimmermann

[two_third padding=”30px 0px 0 0px”]Last, but definitely not least, it wouldn’t be a fashion week roundup if I didn’t talk about my favorite designer to show in New York. The Zimmermann show certainly did not disappoint this year. Based on her childhood memories of the soap opera show Number 96, Zimmermann created a collection with a sexy-boho flair, showing just enough to feel powerful and provocative. The show included mixed elements of western through patchwork and low-rise trousers – I’m already dying to get my hands on the yellow skirt & blouse set (pictured above).
