On the horizon…

I’m hesitant to actually put this list out into the universe… you all know what I’m like. I change my mind every other month about decor. But – a goal for 2023 is to invest in pieces that I won’t want to change within a few months, so hopefully this list will keep me accountable. I’m also hoping I can revisit this post in December and see how much I accomplished in our home. We just resigned our lease for another year, so it has me excited to continue to make it my dream space. Here’s a brief overview of the small changes I’m planning to make to each space…

Living Room

I’m not making any major changes here, but I am hoping to fine tune a couple of things. I have my eye on a new, much simpler rug and would love to finally get our vintage mid-century modern chairs reupholstered. The other item on my to-do is to find out if we can have a ceiling light hardwired. It’s screaming to have a vintage Murano as the centerpiece of the room. Apart from that, I’ll be focusing on scaling back the decor to make the overall space feel more serene and minimal – just keeping the items I truly love.

Dining Area

I have a few changes coming here.. one of which I did over the holiday weekend! The room has been painted back to Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore (is anyone really surprised?). The blue was beautiful but just too blue in certain light. I found it clashing with my vision going forward for the living space, and am happy with its fresh feeling. I’ve also finally sourced the perfect chairs for the ends of the dining table. They should be here in the next couple of weeks, so more to come on this!

Kitchen

I’m fairly happy with where the kitchen is at. Being that it’s a rental, this room is a constant moral struggle of how much money I should really invest into it. Our appliances have all seen better days, and while they aren’t to the point of the landlord replacing them, it’s an upgrade I’m considering making on my own (heavy emphasis on considering). I’m also lightly considering replacing the countertops.. they’ve had knife marks on them from previous tenants and the overall cost for this wouldn’t be too astronomical, considering we have one square inch of counters. Tbd on if I’ll do any of this… otherwise I’m really happy with this space!

Bedroom

I’m making the most changes in this space in 2023. It fell a bit to the wayside last year and was no longer sparking joy when I woke up each morning. I’ve already created a new office area for myself in the corner (a post coming on that soon!) and am switching out our nightstands, bedside lights and rug. I’ve found myself pulling away from brass lately, so I’m planning to incorporate some other tones and metals to give it fresh life. The fireplace, headboard and vintage Murano aren’t going anywhere though — don’t worry!

Bathroom

The room that gets the least love in my house! I impulsively painted it a shade of dusty pink last year — and like every time I’ve used a color, I regretted it a month later. I’d love to try my hand at lime washing a space, and I think it would look beautiful with the existing marble in the bathroom. I’d also love to make better use of the wall space to add some more storage/displays for my favorite beauty items.

I think that just about covers it.. but who knows what else I’ll come up with when inspiration strikes! Excited to have you follow along this year for the journey. x
