Travel Diary: Our Weekend in Asheville

We took a little escape to the largest house in America…

If you were following along on Instagram, then you know we spent the past weekend in Asheville, NC celebrating my 30th birthday. Neither of us had been in years, so we took the opportunity to explore somewhere “new” and try some amazing restaurants. We headed up with no real plans except to spend a day at the Biltmore and see where the rest of the time took us.

Our intention at the Biltmore Estate was just to explore the gardens and potentially visit the winery, but we ended up having to purchase a day pass anyways which allowed us entry into the house. The gardens were beautiful! Even though there isn’t much blooming in June, it was still so tranquil to walk around the property. My absolute favorite was the Italian Garden. A day pass ticket also comes with a free tasting over at the winery, so be sure to take advantage of that!

After our tour, we headed to The Montford Rooftop Bar in downtown Asheville to catch the sunset. We ordered a couple of tapas – both were amazing! If weather permits, this is a great spot to kick off an evening in Asheville.

It was very rainy our second morning in Asheville, so we grabbed the best biscuits to go from Blue Ridge Biscuit Company (seriously, they were life-changing… we ate there twice), and stayed cozied up in our super cute Airbnb playing monopoly until the rain stopped. It cleared up enough for us to take a quick walk through Craggy Gardens, and even though the rhododendrons weren’t blooming yet, it was still a nice walk with a gorgeous view. For dinner, we headed back into town and grabbed bites and drinks at Sovereign Remedies – this place was amazing! If you appreciate good food, I’d highly recommend here. I had the ravioli and Ryan had the chicken and we both loved our meals. We finished off our evening with the largest ice cream cone of my life at Marble Slab Creamery, and that pretty much wrapped up our quick getaway to Asheville! We are already excited to go back and visit again in the fall.
