A Green Home = A Happy Home

I have A LOT of plants in my home.. and I mean, A LOT.

Like at least two per room. It innocently started as just one fiddle leaf fig tree, and then became a full-blown obsession. And before you ask — yes, they all have names and I treat them like my children.

However, when I stumbled upon this Porter article a few weeks back, I actually felt quite validated in my obsession. According to the article, a green home is actually a healthy home. Turns out, there are so many benefits to turning your home into a mini greenhouse.

Apart from being natural air purifiers, plants actually have lots of other health benefits. I bet by the end of this you’ll be ready to convert your home to a garden also…

1 / Healthier Air

It’s no secret that trees = cleaner air. Having them inside your home acts as a natural air purifier (probably the most aesthetically pleasing one you can find too!). Indoor air pollution comes from all sorts of sources – from computers breaking down and releasing compounds, to airborne mold, viruses, and pollutants, toxins are everywhere. Plants such as chrysanthemum, English ivy and peace lily are great for reducing these toxins in your home. They also release their oxygen at night, so putting these in types in the bedroom is a great idea. Other types, such as Snake Plants, and Pothos can filter benzene, formaldehyde,, xylene and toluene.

2 / Improved Mood

It has actually been proven that having plants in your workplace or in your home actually has an effect on your mood. If you think about it, being outdoors usually does the mind good. Plants in our living areas can do the same thing, helping to increase relaxation. Having them in our environment can also reduce mental fatigue and stress. And get this – bonus points if you touch the plants! Basically, make time to pet your plants like they’re, well, pets.

3 / Improves Intelligence

Okay, not really. You still have to put in the work. But according to this article, plants can help boost both productivity and your learning capabilities. Plants can help settle the mind, creating a safe and inviting working environment. In addition, they can boost confidence and help you improve your focus and master a subject. Who knew plants could do all of that? *Adds another plant to cart for home office.*
