There are a couple of reasons why I love anything covered in cinnamon sugar – both relating back to my childhood. I’m not sure when or why the tradition started, but I have very vivid memories of my Poppop taking my sister and me to the store on our weekly visits to get freshly baked cinnamon twists. The second reason why I am addicted to cinnamon sugar, I blame entirely on my mom. Every morning for breakfast, or every afternoon after school, she would always have something delicious waiting at the kitchen island for my sister and me. I don’t remember ever getting to pick out what we wanted to have, but my favorite was when she would serve us a slice of perfectly toasted bread, with just enough melted butter to hold on a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar. Although this simple snack is something I’ve continued to make myself as I’ve become an adult, I like the idea of combining it with a cinnamon twist. This recipe satisfies my sweet tooth’s cravings, and brings me back to my childhood, even if just for a few moments.
