I have no idea how we got here so quickly, but Thanksgiving and Black Friday week is already here! While I’m definitely not much help on “how to prep for Thanksgiving” (chef skills are best left to my mom on Turkey Day), I’m excited to share a few tips and tricks I have for making shopping on Black Friday a success. From finding all the best sales, getting Christmas shopping done early, and making the day as stress-free as possible, I’ve learned over the years what and how to shop on an otherwise hectic day.
Tip No. 1: Make a List
While this may remind you of the cliche song, “He’s making a list and checking it twice,” it actually is something I do every year before starting my shopping! I keep a note in my phone of exactly what I want to gift everyone during the holiday season. This not only helps make sure I don’t leave anyone out, but it’s also a great strategy for keeping myself (or my budget) on track on Black Friday.
After my lists are made, I like to head over to the retailers’ websites that I know I’ll be shopping and start making a more specific list from there. Websites like Nordstrom, ASOS, Target, Net-A-Porter, and Revolve make this super convenient with their wish list feature. Just save the item to your list, and it’s easy to find again when you’re ready to do your shopping on Black Friday. This always helps me sort through all the fluff and purchase exactly what I’m looking for.
Tip No. 2: Check Your Email
This is the only time of year I actually pay attention to retailers’ emails that come in. Most of the year they drive me crazy and go immediately into my trash, but weeks like this, they can actually prove helpful! I’ve already gotten several emails this morning saying they are holding surprise early sales. Be on the lookout for those messages so you can beat the crowds and ensure what you want is still in stock and available.
Tip No. 3: Shop Sales Early
As I mentioned, there are a fair amount of retailers this year that are starting their sales as early as today. I like to go ahead and shop them the first day they are live – there’s nothing worse than what you wanted selling out before you get a chance to shop! ASOS is already offering 30% off your purchase (for those signed up for Premier Delivery), and Net-A-Porter has just started an amazing sale you don’t want to miss! Some of this season’s most coveted designer items are marked down 30-50% off.
