The little black dress has been a staple in every women’s wardrobe for ages. It all began in 1926 when Coco Chanel debuted her LBD that was ultimately compared to being as classic and versatile as the Ford Model T (a huge compliment at the time). It was sleek, slim-fitting, minimalistic, and had a high neckline that seemed to be universally flattering. It was at that moment that little black dresses became a go-to for any event for ladies around the globe.

Fast forward to today, and nearly every woman can claim to have at least one tried and true version hanging in her closet. Whether it’s a sophisticated and tailored option to wear to the office with a blazer, or a tight-fitting, low cut version to wear out at night with stiletto pumps, every girl’s probably got one that’s their go-to option. But this got me thinking – shouldn’t the ultimate little black dress be one that takes you from the work day to the weekend, and then into the night?

I love this version from Anthropologie. The embroidery detail and pops of pink and green add a sweet and delicate touch, and instantly make this dress stand out from an other ordinary black dress. This floral LBD is fitting for any occasion – sassy enough to wear to an evening soirée, flirty enough for a dinner date, or lovely enough for a daytime luncheon. Though it’s definitely different than what debuted in 1926, I think the sophistication and loveliness of this dress would make Coco herself proud.
