Gone Gingham

Something about the sweetness of summer always inspires me to incorporate more retro aspects into my day to day look. Maybe it’s because I’ve watched one too many movies from the 1950’s, where the girls are perfectly polished yet playful in their sundresses and sandals, riding bikes down the lane or picnicking with their beau. Regardless of what inspires me to embody that time period during the warmer seasons, it’s a trend that I’ve noticed myself following for the last several years.

This adorable gingham dress from Anthropologie has to take the cake for one of my favorite vintage-inspired pieces in my wardrobe. The print alone is so timeless, not to mention the ruffled top adds a flirtatious element that is perfect for summertime romance. I love that this dress can also be styled as a cold shoulder dress – the ruffles on top actually unbutton under the arms, and can be re-fastened on the outside of the arms, incase you want a little more coverage and more dramatic statement.

Paired with my favorite white sunglasses, vintage earrings, and a wide brim boater hat, I couldn’t help but feel like I’d stepped right out of one of my favorites classic films. It was a simple and easy look, but I love how it all pulled together to create a sophisticated and feminine summertime ensemble, inspired by one of my favorite eras.
