Dipped in Yellow

Two of my favorite fashion icons from women in history are Audrey Hepburn and Twiggy. They are nearly as opposite as can be, but I love Audrey Hepburn for her classic, feminine style, and Twiggy for her bold and fun fashion choices. I have always felt that I my style lays somewhere in the middle. I love a classic look, but I always like to add the pop of unexpected to keep it from being too ordinary.

I’ve had this yellow trench for years (it was actually a piece I did one of my first ever ‘fashion shoots’ in before I even had a blog), and decided this past weekend was a perfect time to pull it out. The weather was rainy and dreary, and in my effort to pretend it’s spring, it seemed appropriate. I forgot how much this piece instantly made me feel more like my style icons. It has the classic structure of a trench Audrey Hepburn would have worn, but paired with a mod umbrella and winged eyeliner, the bright yellow reminds me of something daring Twiggy would have styled.

One of my favorite parts about fashion is pulling inspiration from style icons like those ladies, and making it suitable for my style and my life. Once I’ve done that, it can sometimes even inspire me to live life through their shoes (no pun intended) for a day, and see the world with a different point of view.
