As you may have seen by way of my Instagram, after ringing in the New Year, Ryan and I headed up to the cabin in Blowing Rock to make the most of a relaxing weekend prior to starting our work weeks back. It was the perfect getaway – even though we didn’t do much except grab coffee in town, cozy up by the fire, and watch a ton of movies that have been on our list for ages. Regardless, it was exactly what I needed to go back to work refreshed and re-energized.
We usually head up to this overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway to take in the sights (and if you’ve been following for a while you may recognize it from a couple of other posts). It was pretty cold this past weekend, which we came prepared for, but what we weren’t expecting was this wind! As you may be able to tell from these photos, I was getting blown all over the place! The wind whipped so hard a couple of times I thought I was about to go flying off of the mountain!
Though it may have been bitter cold, it did make for some amazing photo opportunities. There were mountain ridges in every shade as far as the eye could see! In some of these photos I can’t even tell where the mountains stop and the clouds begin. I love the mountains this time of year because with all the bare trees, you can really see and appreciate all of the ridges in each mountain peak. Such a magical sight to see! I’m so lucky that a view this breathtaking is just a quick three hour drive away.
