If there’s one thing I remember about my mom’s fashion growing up, it’s that whenever we went out anywhere special during the winter, she always pulled out this long, super warm, dark camel colored wool peacoat. It didn’t come out too often, but when it did, it was usually embellished with a vintage looking pin, and topped off with a cozy scarf.
I, admittedly, fall victim to following fashion trends just as much as the next fashionista. However, if there’s one thing I believe in, it’s investing in the classics. My mom’s maxi coat was something that stuck with me always – she to this day talks about how good of an investment hers was! I knew I had come of age that it was time to purchase one that would last me years and years to come.
This past weekend when Ryan and I were in Blowing Rock, it was absolutely freezing! We snapped these photos on the way to our morning coffee – I think the temperature was in the mid-twenties, and the wind was blowing like crazy! Yet, somehow, even in a dress and sheer tights (how cute are the polka dots?), I stayed so warm in this wool maxi coat. This one has unfortunately sold out since I purchased it, but I’ve linked a couple of similar styles below.
I know this piece will be one I will reach for winter after winter – even if I do feel a little like my mom when I wear it. But after all, mom knows best, right? Now all I need is a vintage brooch for the collar and I’m good to go!
