The other day, I found myself sitting on the couch, quite literally pouting at Ryan for no specific reason. I can’t say that I have anything to complain about, but for the last couple of weeks, I’ve been in a funk. I constantly have felt like I’ve been falling behind, playing catch up, and then get overwhelmed with what’s on my plate. I have so many big plans in the works, but can’t find time to actually sit and complete any of them. The stress of it all made me want to just sit and pout about it (and basically throw myself a pity party – a box of chocolate was involved).
It’s days like today, when we remember and thank those who have served for our country, that puts attitudes like mine, into perspective. I have so much to be thankful for, and in the grand scheme of things, all my little worries aren’t that bad. There are people who have real stresses in their lives, and they handle these stresses with so much grace. My poppop, who was a veteran himself, was always this kind of man. He kept a positive, upbeat attitude with whatever came his way, and never let life’s little stresses get him down.
So today, in remembrance of my poppop and all of the other men and women who have served our country, I’m taking a ‘mental health day’ to regroup, refocus, and get re-energized to enjoy what is truly important in life: family, friends, and creating your own happiness.
